It is with great sadness that the EUBS ExCom – and all of her friends in our society – pay tribute to Dr Fiona Sharp, who died on October 17 during a rebreather dive off the coast of Bonaire, Dutch Caribbean.
Fiona was our Australian ‘anchor’, her joyful, witty, loud, crazy and passionate personality was a constant at virtually all EUBS meetings. She was great fun to be around and was completely straightforward – you knew where you were with Fiona and that was part of her charm.
She has been a Member at Large of EUBS from 2011-2014, getting the Society onto Facebook, and was once the enthusiastic subject of diving medicine research, as featured in this 2015 paper in our DHM journal.
For those of us who knew her, we will have similar, indelible but ultimately unique memories of Fiona. For those who never met her, her loss has caused a surge of remembrance on social media, so if you take some time to read the tributes, you should get a measure of the person she was, and how missed she will be. Our meetings will have a Fiona-shaped hole in them in the future.
Rest in Peace Fiona, although we are sure it will be hard for you to slow down…
