Research and Education Committee

The Research and Education Committee is tasked with organizing and/or supervising educational activities endorsed by EUBS; one such example are the Courses for Young Investigators, organized in conjunction with EUBS Annual Scientific Meetings.

The Committee also evaluates applications for Travel Grants (in the period preceding an Annual Scientific Meeting) and for Research Grants (in the month of December of each year).

Travel Grant Application conditions:

  1. The applicant shall be registered as a full-time university student in a relevant field.
  2. The applicant shall be working towards a scientific degree with relevance to diving or hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
  3. The applicant shall submit an abstract to that year’s Annual Meeting, which must be accepted for presentation.
  4. Oral and poster presentations will be equally acceptable.
  5. The number of students receiving a travel grant may vary from one year to another, depending on the number of applicants.
  6. The absolute size of each individual travel grant may vary according to the actual size of travel expenses, but the relative amount, i.e. percent of travel cost on economy class, will be the same for all recipients in one particular year. The maximum amount attributed is 800 Euros per applicant. This amount is destined for travel costs only (flight + hotel), not e.g. poster printing.
  7. The deadline for the submission of applications is the same as the Deadline for Submission of Abstracts.
  8. The application must be made by e-mail to secretary@eubs.org and must include:
  • A statement from the student’s supervisor confirming that the student is registered as a full-time university student in a relevant field and is currently working towards a scientific degree.
  • An abstract submitted for presentation in the meeting.
  • A provisional budget on travel expenses to the meeting. The travel should be as economical as possible. Hotel rooms will only be considered for the duration of the Scientific Meeting, not before or after.

Research Grant Application conditions:

  1. The applicant must be employed by or working for a Research Institution and must be working on an approved research protocol.
  2. The applicant must submit an abstract and participate in the next EUBS Annual Scientific Meeting.
  3. In the final report of the research, EUBS financial support must be acknowledged; EUBS Excom needs to receive a copy (paper or pdf) of the final published paper or PhD thesis.
  4. The applicant is encouraged to submit the scientific paper to our scientific journal, Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine Journal.
  5. The amount available for the Research Grant is determined every year by the EUBS Executive Committee; for 2023, this is 4000 Euro.
  6. The deadline for application for a Research Grant is December 1st of each year; evaluation of proposals will take place during the month of December and the decision will be communicated to the applicant in the first week(s) of January (before January 15).
  7. The application must be made by e-mail to secretary@eubs.org and must include:
  • A statement from the applicant’s Research Institute Director confirming that the applicant is employed by this Institute as a researcher and is working on an approved research protocol in the relevant field.
  • An abstract submitted for presentation in the next EUBS meeting.
  • A Research Grant application form, allowing EUBS to evaluate the project. The EUBS Research Grant Application Form can be downloaded here.
